OSDP

OSDP is an open supervised device protocol between access panels and end devices. It is a better communications approach:

  • more secure
  • uses fewer wires
  • longer range
  • and multi-drop

It offers unlimited application enhancements such as:

  • direct biometric support
  • smart card interface
  • authentication
  • FIPS compliance
  • interactive terminal capabilities

Commentary

With an ever-growing list of compatible devices from numerous companies, the OSDP specification was picked up by the Security Industry Association (SIA) in 2012. This valuable specification has now become a valuable industry standard.
